Who is a lawyer? What does a lawyer do?

A lawyer is a person who provides legal representation for his/her client in court.

It means a lawyer is a person who represents his/her client in court. He speaks for his client. A lawyer is a person who provides legal aid and services to the people. A lawyer is a person who looks at the client's cases and tries to seek the best remedy for his client.

How to Become a Lawyer? What to do for being a Lawyer?

There is only one way to be a lawyer which is getting the degree of bachelor's in law. But we can say there are three ways to become a lawyer in Nepal. They are by completing the degree of BALLB, BBM LLB and LLB. 

You can do any course to be a lawyer. After completing any courses, you become a lawyer after getting lawyering certificate from the Nepal Bar Council.

What to do after getting a bachelor's degree in law?

Getting a bachelor's degree to be a lawyer is not enough to practice in court as a lawyer. You can see many people have completed their bachelor's degree in law but are still not a lawyer. After getting a bachelor's degree, you have to also get a license as a law practitioner from the Bar Council of Nepal.

Nepal Bar Council conducts exams each year to provide licenses to candidates for practicing law. Anyone who has completed any degree among LLB, BALLB, and BBM LLB then he/she can participate in the Bar Exam.

What is the Nepal Bar Council?

This question what is the Nepal Bar Council may be in your mind after listening that you have to get a license for practicing law by passing the exam conducted by the Nepal Bar Council. That's why I have also discussed in short about Nepal Bar Council.

Nepal Bar Council is an independent body that was established by the Nepal Bar Council Act, 2050 BS. It was established to protect, promote and regulate the activities of law practitioner. It determines the code of conduct of lawyers, the curriculum for examination and rules for law practitioners etc.

Nepal Bar Council issues licenses to law practitioners takes disciplinary actions against lawyers conducts investigations against lawyers and keeps records of legal practitioners if they are contributing to the development of the legal profession.
