I have found 5 reason that's why lawyers wear black coat in court. They are as follow:-
1. The dress code of black in our country is considered a symbol of discipline and self-confidence among lawyers. The black coat gave a different identity to the lawyers as compared to other professions. It is made mandatory for lawyers to wear black coats in Nepal under the The Code of Conduct for Legal Practitioners, 2051.
According to number 3(J) of Code of Conduct for Legal Practitioners 2051, it is compulsory to wear black coat in court for lawyer for arguing a case in Nepal.
2. Since black color is considered a symbol of mourning, so when King Charles died in England, all the lawyers in his condolence meeting came wearing black color court. Since then also black court was made mandatory for lawyers. By the way, let us tell you that black color is very popular for profession in England.
3. Black color is considered a symbol of power and authority. Black color is also related to obedience, muscle, subordination. Therefore, lawyers are considered to be subject to justice. The white band that the lawyer wears on his shirt is said to be a symbol of purity and innocence.
4. Black color is also a symbol of blindness. The law is supposed to be blind. It is believed that a blind person is never partial. That's why lawyers wear black coats. After wearing a black coat, the lawyer fights for the truth without any discrimination.
5. There is also a scientific region of black color. Black color absorbs hot rays. During the debate in the court, the atmosphere is not only hot, lawyers also get drenched with sweat, in such a situation, lawyers also wear black coats to increase the power to bear the heat.
